Mr. Gavel is aces as a PI. Story developed quickly but you begin to wonder if anything good comes from all the problems. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters but was disappointed that the ending wasn't quite complete. I would definitely recommend this book to others who love a PI that is smart and can roll with the punches. Story line will keep you guessing until the twisted end. Very proofrEading.Product details

I like Tony Gavel ... he's an ex-cop, PI now specializing in finding missing persons. He doesn't have the brashness of most hardened PIs, but he can be a tough guy when needs be.
After being hired by a woman to find her lover, her husband's business partner and best friend, Gavel finds the man in his own home, a victim of suicide .... or is it?
Shortly after, his office is broken into and then a day or so later, his home is broken into. Who is it and what do they think he has?
I enjoyed the storyline ... lots of action that kept me reading to see what would happen next. I liked all the characters, especially Louise and Milo. You have to read the story to see who they are!
I gave it a 3 star rating ... there were some grammatical errors, which can be easily corrected, but it was a bit distracting. Some of the conversations were a bit choppy and repetitious in areas. Again, a bit distracting but not enough to not enjoy the reading.
Looking forward to reading the next Tony Gavel novel. He's a character worth following.

Tony Gavel is an ex-police officer who now runs his own P.I. business that specializes in missing person cases. Coming into work one morning, Tony discovers the door to his office was jimmied opened and everything in it tossed. In the middle of cleaning up, he is visited by beautiful Merissa Talbert who asks his help in finding her husband's business partner. Tony finds the missing partner dead in his own home of an apparent suicide, but after looking around the victims home, it's not as clear cut as the police think it is.
Tony reports back to Merissa, who also refuses to believe it was a suicide and now requests Tony to find his killer. After interviewing Merissa's husband, Anthony at their business, Tony is followed and shots are fired at him and someone fire bombs his office. Are they connected? I don't want to say any more but you need to buy the book. It was well planned out and there are many twists and turns. Tony's investigation is great and all the loose ends are tied up neatly at the end.
I do want to mention that in the copy that I received, there were a few grammatical errors throughout the book that any editor could fix in no time. I don't know if all copies are like this or what, but the errors I did find did not distract from the story. I gave it a 5 star rating despite the errors, because it was a thoroughly enjoyable book that had me totally engrossed in the story ( I started this book late last night and read it all day today because I couldn't put it down), it was well plotted and I loved the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves P.I. novels.

Tony Gavel is a ex-cop and now runs a very successful PI business. He specializes in missing person cases. His morning starts with his office being ransacked and a beautiful new client walking through his door.
This is one of the best PI books I have read. Tony Gavel is an amazing investigator that always manages to get himself into tough spots. The new case he takes on takes him for quite the twist when he finds the missing person, only to find him dead by apparent suicide. His client doesn't believe it was suicide and neither does Tony.
The investigation just keeps going deeper and deeper as he closes in on a pimp and a bookie. He meets a special lady along the way and reveals some of his past and the trauma he went through in his last relationship and the unsolved case.
This book will take you on many different adventures and will take twists that I did not see coming. The characters are well designed and the interaction between them is realistic. I can sympathize with Tony and found him to be believable as an ex-cop and a private investigator. He is a great lead character. He is a risk taker and he is fun and interesting to follow along with.
This book will keep you guessing and keep you turning the page. The action is superb and the depth of the story is quite engaging. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from JW Metcalf and more about Tony Gavel and his adventures.
I have never read a book with so many grammatical and spelling mistakes. There cannot have been any proof reading! At some points i had to read out loud in order to understand. No difference is made between whose and who's, between theirs and there's and many more.
I was engrossed in this book from the minute I started it. when I read a book if I am not drawn in the first 2 chapters I normally discard it. I found there to be a lot of different things going on at once which makes your mind work. I thought I had it figured it all out only to find out I was completely off the mark. There were twists and turns which makes you want to keep reading. The writer has a way of drawing you in and holding your attention. , and the ending was explained fully and tied up in a neat little package. I am now reading the second book and I love the foreshadowing in the first book. It was a fantastic read and I am looking forward to the other books that this author puts out.
