Q What do a set of LEGO toys, a sexy hairdresser, a mountain of cocaine, a glitter-dusted stripper, and a crackhead with a mohawk have in common?
A Absolutely nothing. Except that they're all key elements in the stories featured in this short collection.
TO BUILD A HELICOPTER
The story of a man whose girlfriend unceremoniously dumps him at a party due to his lack of ambition. He’ll seek solace in two piles one of LEGO pieces, and the other, Bolivian marching powder. He’ll use them both to build something to prove his worth.
THE MEANINGS OF WORDS
A story of a man peeping through the glass window of a hair salon, longing for the beautiful stylist inside. He knows all of her curves, her smile, everything about her. He’s got a message for her, but doesn’t know if he can find the courage to say it.
SHOTS AND STRIPPERS
One fateful night in the life of a party kid. What starts out as a little get-together turns violent when drinks and dancers swirl into chaos. He’ll try to keep his composure and control of the situation as sanity abandons everyone in the house.

This reminds me of when I had a book of classic American short stories back in my school days - each one is a perfect world that leaves you wanting to know more. But you don't need to know more. There's freedom in this, less commitment than a full novel, but no less detailed. In fact, the details are perfect, each well chosen and credible. The writing is smart and measured, with good definition of characters and scenes in just a few lines. Jim Heskett writes with wit and realism and enough soul to breathe life into his characters and their hapless worlds.Product details

Abandoned Three Short Stories Jim Heskett 9780692417300 Books Reviews
I am keeping this author on my list because I really loved his writing style. The flow of each story was so smooth with out a lot of grammatical errors.
These short stories pack a wallop! Each one is well-written with a tight story and well-developed characters! Quite a feat! I highly recommend this collection!
Too deep for me, maybe my mind is too simple because I didn't understand nothing I read. However, the stories were interesting.
Three great short stories. But they leave you like wanting more. They could have been developed some more. They have twist, intrigue and suspense but way to short.
Jim Heskett has crafted not just 3 engaging, unique short stories, but a fascinating triptych showcasing certain peaks and valleys of the human experience. While each story stands well on its own, the juxtaposition of the three against each other tells another story in itself. Worthwhile, touching, affecting, and entertaining, I would recommend "Abandoned" to anyone looking for a fresh voice in short fiction.
Abandoned is a collection of 3 short stories each of which I really enjoyed. Each story is deep, but particularly the second story which had a twist I was not expecting. I'd really love to know more. What happened? Why? Does, or can the relationship change? The first and third stories were enjoyable too and hooked me in. Mr Heskett seems to be a master at the short story, and I look forward to reading his novel, Reagan's Ashes. But if you're looking for a short and quick read, I highly recommend Abandoned.
I enjoyed the three short stories in ABANDONED, but alas, they were too short. Perhaps, methinks, their charm was "more" because of "less".
I highly recommend giving yourself a treat by reading about the abandonment portrayed in each of these stories.
